The Hispanic National Bar Association Board of Governors welcomes Hannah Breshin-Otero as President for Region V covering Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virgina. Hannah, an associate in the Labor & Employment practice in Washington, was elected to the position after serving for three years as HNBA's Deputy Regional President for Region V.

The University of Mary Washington names Dubai Partner, Sheila Shadmand, as Oustanding Young Alumnus for 2010 in recognition of her exceptional professional achievements. Sheila specializes in international litigation representing a variety of Fortune 500 clients. She has appeared in the ABA Journal, the Washington Post, and other national media in connection with her work, and in 2009, she opened Jones Day's new Dubai Office where she serves as the Administrative Partner and the Pro Bono Partner. Sheila is one of the first female partners of a U.S. law firm in the Middle East.

The National Bar Association recognizes Leslie Overton for its Nation's Best Advocates: 40 Under 40 Award to be presented at the annual NBA Conference in New Orleans in August. Read More

InsideCounsel magazine selects Mary Ellen Powers, Partner-in-Charge of the Washington Office to receive its inaugural Law Firm Economic Empowerment Award at its Transformative Leadership Awards Dinner on May 24, 2010 in Chicago. Mary Ellen was selected on the basis of her achievements as a lawyer, her leadership within the Firm and in the legal profession, and on her contributions to the development and success of other women lawyers. Silicon Valley Office Hosts Northern California "Women in IP: Tips for Successful Negotiation" Event. On April 6, 2010, Jones Day's Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices hosted an event entitled "Women in IP: Tips for Successful Negotiation" - the third in an ongoing series of CLE presentations for female in-house clients and potential clients, that was developed in 2009 by a group of female associates located in the Silicon Valley office. Guests included in-house counsel from local high-tech and biotech companies, many of whom have attended previous events in this "Women in IP" series. Peggy Ward, a partner in the Silicon Valley office, served as one of four panelists and shared her experience negotiating antitrust matters on behalf of clients before the Department of Justice. The next "Women in IP" presentation is tentatively scheduled for Summer 2010.

San Francisco Partner Katherine S. Ritchey receives the Flex Success Award from The Project for Attorney Retention, a program of the WorkLife Law Center at UC Hastings School of Law. The PAR Flex Success Award recognizes a law firm partner along with a client who has been critical to her success while working part-time. Dawn Andrews, Managing Attorney, Labor & Employment, Office of General Counsel, Sempra-Energy joined Ms. Ritchey in accepting the award on March 18 in San Francisco during the PAR Conference. Leadership Council on Legal Diversity - Jones Day joins this groundbreaking new organization comprised of chief legal officers and law firm leaders from many of the largest U.S. corporations and law firms. The LCLD, an outgrowth of the General Counsels Call to Action, is dedicated to making progress on diversity by maximizing the collaborative potential of corporate and law firm leaders to make substantive progress on diversity through the development of specific goals, implementation of measurable metrics, and recognition of definitive results. Kevyn Orr, Chair of the Jones Day Diversity Task Force, serves on the LCLD Working Group on Recruitment, Retention, and Promotion.

"40 Under Forty" Global Competition Review (GCR), recognizes Washington partner Leslie C. Overton to its list, which honors 40 of the world's top young antitrust/competition lawyers. The honorees, who hail from 11 jurisdictions and 32 law firms, were selected from among over 1,000 nominees.
