Work-Life Balance

Jones Day has almost 30 years of experience with lawyers working in a wide range of alternative schedules and, at any given time, there are scores of lawyers around the Firm working part-time. Individual lawyers have utilized these part-time arrangements for periods ranging from a few months to a decade or more. Others have worked full-time from home for limited periods. Associates have been promoted to partner while on part-time schedules, and there are partners in senior management positions in the Firm who have worked part-time during some period in their careers.

Several factors cause our lawyers to feel comfortable availing themselves of the part-time/flex-time option. One is that we compensate lawyers based on all of their contributions to the Firm and not solely on the number of hours they billSecondly, the Firm's state of the art technology and our technical support team enable our lawyers to work effectively from any location, thus making it easier to get work done from home when the need arises. Finally, there is an abundance of role models available whose experience demonstrates that a part-time schedule need not interfere with a lawyer's development and success in the Firm.

A variety of flexible and part-time arrangements are available to meet the needs of individual lawyers.  Associates may propose a part-time arrangement, and such arrangements are considered on a case-by-case basis.
