Jones Day's global online guide to same-sex relationship laws receives Chambers USA Award for Excellence in Diversity

May 2015

On May 19, Jones Day received the inaugural award in the category of Diversity at the Chambers USA Awards for Excellence for the development of its online Legal Recognition of Same-Sex Relationships Guide, a website that comprehensively surveys and tracks changes in laws governing the legal recognition of same-sex relationships around the world. The guide is a practical, useful, and meaningful diversity initiative that supports LGBT communities, both within the legal profession and far beyond.

Available for use without charge throughout the world, the site summarizes the status of legal recognition of same-sex relationships in 292 jurisdictions, including all U.N. recognized countries and relevant sub-jurisdictions, such as each of the United States. The work on the site was coordinated as a pro bono effort by a multinational team of more than 200 Jones Day lawyers and staff that included almost every Jones Day office around the globe. Launched in February 2015, the guide has already been accessed from more than 47 countries, ranging from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, to Cambodia, Pakistan, and Egypt.

In January 2015, Chambers and Partners launched Chambers Diversity, an extension of its Chambers Women in Law initiative. Covering the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, the United States, and Latin America, the program unearths the most outstanding lawyers who have shown a real commitment to advancing diversity in the law.
